The Z-21 Brave Typhoon 勇敢的台风 is the PLA Armys latest advanced attack helicopter. The Z-21 is designed around a tandem rotor pusher configuration. Its design is based on the US Army FARA requirement but uses chinese components and advanced fly-by-wire technology. This allows the Z-21 to travel up to 325 pm using a rear blades, and has two optional lift winglets which can be removed for increased stealth. The Z-21 has internal weapon payload for up to 2000 kg of stores include anti-tank, rockets, and anti-air missiles. The Z-21 has a 20mm cannon mounted in the front with FLIR targeting ball. The Z-21 also is fitted for air-to-air refueling probe. Its defensive systems include flares, missile warning, and laser warning systems. DIRCM countermeasures and stealth design allows it to move throughout the battlefield flying low. The PLAN and PLAAF have both deployed the Z-21 in combat units for the chinese navy and army. Its commonly paired with J-8 unmanned combat helicopters which carry additional missiles.
