“The world around us is crumbling, David…” Joseph said mournfully to his son as they stood on a cliff overlooking the battle that had just ended between humans and illagers. “And yet despite that, we are still standing.” Joseph turned to David, a slight grin on his face-though it could not hide the pain behind his eyes.
“David, you and I, we are special. People like us are different from everyone else. It is embedded into our programming to protect others. To defend those who cannot defend themselves.” He raised his son’s arm up.
“We are beacons, son. In times of despair, the people turn to us for guidance. That is the path a knight must follow. That is why, even in the hardest of times, we must not show our vulnerability. We must stay strong, and remain a symbol to the world-a symbol that stands against even the most wicked of fiends.”
David looked out across the crater-riddled field, littered with the fallen items of the deceased. A sad expression covered his face.
