Purpose
Sculpture made for a Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology graduation project, Yōkai.
Focusing on quality rather than optimization, I put my sculptures in an Unreal Engine 4 environment created mostly with Quixel megascan assets. There I’ve made a short movie that would sufficiently showcase my models in an interesting way.
If you’re interested in seeing the whole process, here’s the Making of movie.
Character
This particular creature, resemblant of both lions and dogs, is known in Japanese culture as a guardian figure. Its statues are put in places to ensure protection from evil forces. When creating this model, I took inspiration from real sculptures of Shisa, making the circular patterns on the mane, as well as a particular head shape with an open mouth, which presents its teeth and tongue nicely.
