More model informationFragments from the gable end of the roof of a tomb at Xanthos (now in Turkey) featuring two sphinxes and two lions. Dates from the Early Classical period of Greece, circa 480 and belongs to ancient Lycia. When first discovered, this limestone relief had brilliant colouring that was recorded to have feathers in rows with red, black and blue centres and white borders while the sphinx hair was yellow. However, this sculpture on display in the British Museum has no remains of these colours.
