Artificial leg. Full artificial leg with hollow wooden thigh, calf, and foot; tanned and polished leather exterior; joints are connected by steel hardware and articulated at knee, ankle, and first joint of toes; catgut artificial tendons; leather sole and felt heel on the underside of wooden foot. This style of artificial leg is a good example of a 19th century prosthetic known as the “Anglesey leg,” invented by James Potts of London in 1815 and named after Henry Paget, Marquess of Anglesey, who lost his leg in the Battle of Waterloo.
