An incomplete copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth 2011, Part 3, Group 5, flat wing type, Western Group), c.f. Mackreth 2011, 5.b4.Plate 50, of Roman dating (AD 80 - AD 120).
Approximately 50% of the brooch is present consisting of the upper part of the bow and wings. The lower half of the bow, foot, spring and pin are missing. The brooch is T-shaped in plan and the wings are semi-cylindrical. The bow head is hump-like, and angular (comma shaped) in profile. A rectangular groove is present at the reverse of the head along the length of the wings. This still contains the spring, with a minimum of four coils each side. The wings are incomplete. The bow extends from the head and tapers to a broken terminal which has a well developed patina. The foot is missing.
