An incomplete copper alloy possible steelyard of probable Roman dating (AD 43 to AD 410).
The possible steelyard has a square shank. One end has a double collar terminal, with central circular knop. The upper collar has been decorated with oblique slashes to create a ropelike decoration. The other end exhibits a patinated break. The square shank has several horizontal grooves across the width. This artefact is likely to be a terminal of a steelyard, similar to WMID-184456 but as the grooves are not regularly spaced, this identification is not definite. It could be a pin but pin tend to have a circular cross section to the shank
