An incomplete copper alloy sword scabbard chape of Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval dating (c. AD 1450 to c. AD 1600).
The chape consists of the front portion. The chape is broadly U-shape, or roughly sub-triangular, and semi-circular in cross-section. There are two v-shaped voids at one end where there would have been a flared opening. The sides taper downwards towards a basal knop at the other end. Two transverse ridges extend across the centre and upper portion of the chape. The reverse is concave with a bevelled edge that would have attached to the other half.
The chape measures 47.8 mm long, 30.7 mm wide and 4.1 mm thick. It weighs 10.9 grams.
The chape is a mid to dark green colour, with an even surface patina. To find out more, visit the PAS database: https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/1148532
