An incomplete copper-alloy (bronze) cast horse harness fitting or strap distributor, dating from the late Iron age to the early roman period ( c.50BC-AD50).
The object comprises three connected openwork trefoil rings (of which two survives intact) and a probable central motif of a horses head projecting 90 degrees from the centre of the object. The complete rings have an internal diameter of 9.7 mm and 8.8 mm. There are faint signs that the horse’s head is decorated with ears and a mane comprised of incised herringbone grooves, and probably a split mouth. Much of the ‘face’ of the horse has lost definition through corrosion. The reverse is flat and undecorated.
