An incomplete Roman copper alloy brooch dating to the 4th Century AD. It is cross-shaped in plan. The wings and the foot have been broken off, only the bow and the head remain. The head is conical in shape. The wings are t-shaped but have been broken off. There is a groove on the reverse of the head and wings. The bow expands outward for the head of the brooch and is P-shaped in profile. Below the bow is the catch plate, which has been broken. It is C-shaped to catch the pin, which is missing.
The object surface is mostly smooth and has a green patina. According to Mackreth (2011, volume 1, p. 201) this is a ‘Developed Crossbow’ type brooch and is similar in appearance to 10487, plate 137 (volume 2, p. 140).
