An incomplete, copper alloy Roman plate brooch dating c. AD 80-250. The spring, pin, and part of the catch plate are missing, and the plate is damaged.
With regards to the plate, there is a small section missing from around half-past-one to half-past-two and a much larger section missing from 8 o’clock to 10 o’clock. The rest of the external face is heavily worn. There seems to be the remains of a raised rim around the edge. Inside of the central recess, it appears as if there are the remains of five raised pellets around the outside and perhaps a central raised pellet. This could make it a Mackreth (2011) British Plate type 2b, however, it is heavily worn and appears to have been sub-oval in shape when made. There does not appear to be any remaining enamel.
