WAM M11252 - Boodie or Burrowing Bettong (Skull)3D Model
The Boodie (Bettongia lesueur lesueur) is a species of Bettong that was once widly found across much of Australia, but due to cats and foxes it can now only be found on protected islands of the coast of Shark Bay. This species is arid adapted and like its cousin the Woylie (Bettongia penicillata ogilbyi) it serves as an important keystone species. As it digs for food it turns the soil, spreads seeds and mixes organic matter into the soil. Conservation groups are working hard to reintroduce the Boodie and other keystone species back into arid areas as part of the Arid recovery project. You can learn more about the Boodie and arid recovery in the Western Astralian Museums Wild Life gallery.
