The stone lid or mensa of a 17th-century Kerin-style box-tomb containing the remains of Walter Burke of Ileagh (Borrisoleigh Castle TN034-046001-), Co. Tipperary. The tomb with wall monument above was carved by stone sculptor Patrick Kerin & lies aginst the inner face of the north wall of Glenkeen medieval church ruins in Glenkeen graveyard. In 1585 a royal pardon was granted to Walter fitz William fitz Theobald Burke of Ileaghe, & to his wife Gyles alias Sylye [Elizabeth O’Dwyer]. On the 10th April, 1623, Walter Burke of Borrisoleigh, & Gilles O’Dwyer, his wife, granted lands to his eldest son, Theobald of Culloghill, & Anstace Morres, his wife. Then to Theobald’s sons in succession; Richard, Oliver, Redmond, Ulick, Richard, Edmond, & any other son legitimately born to him. In default of heirs to them, to Walter Burke’s 2nd son, William, his 3rd son, Milles, alias Morrery, his 4th son, John. The Inquisition added that Walter Burke died 24th January, 1623, & was succeeded by his son & heir, Theobald Burke.
