This bronze statue was made over 2,000 years ago, between 300 and 100 B.C. It represents the unknown victor of an athletic competition, probably held at the Olympic Games.
The figure would likely have been displayed either in Olympia or in the youth’s hometown. Very few large-scale bronze statues survive from Greek antiquity. This one stands at about 4’9” without hist lost feet. With his feet, he would have stood about 5’5”.
