The sign at the museum reads:
“Tavaka” built 1994-1995. Sailing outrigger canoe from Futuna, Vanuatu. Traditional canoe design and building skills remain unsurpassed. This Futunan outrigger canoe shows years of refinement in the details. The carved hull, the slender planks, the outrigger beams and the lashings are of traditional Futunan design. The weaving of the sail is exceptionally fine. The Futunan master builder Nakali Lishi built Tavaka as one of three canoes presented to the Maritime Museum. She completed her voyage from Vanuatu by being paddled to the museum across the harbour. Length: 13 ft 5 in / 4.08 m. Beam Overall: 6 ft 5 in / 1.9 m. Builder: Nakali Lishi, Tanna.
