More model informationVaca Muerta is a Mesosiderite (stony-iron meteorite) that was first found in 1861 in the Atacana desert of Chile. These brecciated meteorites contain roughly equal silicate and metallic components. While initial specimen were found in 1860’s, the strewn field was rediscovered my mining prospectors in 1985. Many fragements have been recovered from the Vaca Muerta strewnfield since. More details on the strewnfield and meteorite can be found in the paper by Pedersen et al., 1992 and the article that appeared in ESO’s messenger by Pedersen et al., 1991.
