Possibly my favourite Leith building.
Beautifully decorated Masonic Lodge hidden in plain sight behind the New Kirkgate, Leith. Feast your eyes on those literal Mason’s marks, I’ve not counted them all, feels like that would spoil the fun. The account below shows there were carved finials of the Sun, Moon and Stars above the door which haven’t survived. I’d love to go back and document this building more fully before the stonework deteriorates any further.
The lodge was founded on this site 1888.
