Relocated stone above Thorsgill Beck, north of NW of Egglestone Abbey, County Durham.
This stone now resides on a strip of modern woodland on slopes north of Thorsgill Beck. Referenced ‘The Thorsgill Stone’ in Beckensall & Laurie’s 1998 publication ‘Prehistoric Rock Art of County Durham, Swaledale and Wensleydale’, the carving was added to ERA by NADRAP in 2008. They referenced it ‘Thorsgill’. Beckensall’s drawing shows a complex design of cups, grooves, cups and rings. However, biological growth and dappled lighting prevented NADRAP seeing some of the motifs.
This model clearly shows some of the additional motifs recorded by Stan Beckensall, but biological growth obscures some areas.
