Zinc finger 217 (ZNF217) is an oncoprotein that extends the classical ZF paradigm in various ways. This tour demonstrates the unorthodox (and orthodox) features of ZNF217, including two thymine-specific methyl-pi interactions and its novel binding pattern of sequence-specificity. It is important to note that ZNF217 is a two-ZF unit and that the model in this tour contains two copies of the protein-DNA complex; for an improved viewing experience, ZF7 has been removed from one copy and ZF6 has been removed from the second copy. Moreover, only DNA bases of interest are rendered in the model.
This structure is derived from the Protein Data Bank model 4IS1 and its associated journal article (DOI:10.1074/jbc.M112.441451). This paper contains an amino acid labelling error (GLN-510 binds to C16, not C4) and an error in the introduction (ZNF217 contains eight ZFs, not seven), therefore several other papers have been sourced: DOI:10.2147/CMAR.S431135; DOI:10.1074/jbc.M111.301234.
