More model informationThe Nikolaikapelle with its choir room from 1325 is considered to be the oldest preserved building of Hannover. The chapel was originally built outside the old city, north of the former stone gate and at the southern beginning of the Old St. Nikolai Cemetery in front of the (later) Klagesmarkt. The location outside the former city walls, together with the Nikolai-Stift, had been chosen as a place for healing and quarantine in order to avoid infections of the city inhabitants with leprosy and plague. During the air raids on Hanover in World War II, the chapel was largely destroyed. Today, the ruin is an architectural monument. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikolaikapelle_(Hannover)
