My design is called the Garden of Eternal Tranquility, inspired by the Master of Fishing Nets Garden, a renowned scholar’s garden located in Suzhou, China. The Master of Fishing Nets Garden was originally built during the Southern Song Dynasty by Shi Zhengzhi, who admired the simple and pure life of a fisherman. He created a space that reflected these values, and the garden was further expanded in subsequent centuries. From the Ming Dynasty onwards, it was considered leisure pursuit of the scholar class to design their own gardens. These constructions were spiritual retreat from stresses, showcasing the creator’s knowledge, taste, and interpretations of nature. Motivated by this practice, I aimed to design my own garden, incorporating Fengshui and Daoist principles as I deeply believe in the balance within everything.
