Sam-il-jeol is called “The Independence Movement Day”
Sam-il-jeol Independence Movement Day is a national holiday commemorating independence of Korea and peaceful protests against Japan on March 1, 1919.
Japan illegally occupied our country from 1910 to August 15, 1945.
Sam-il-jeol is a nationwide movement that has begun to read the Declaration of Independence. “Man-se” movement is a peaceful protest waving Korean flag (Tae-geuk-gi) and saying “Independence for Korea”.
Japan suppressed Korean citizens with guns and sword.
Many independent activists were hurt. They were imprisoned, tortured and killed.
One of famous independence activists is Gwan Soon Yoo. Gwan soon Yoo was executed by independence movement at the age of 16 and died due to Japanese torture. Even after her death, Japan committed bad atrocity, including the destruction of her body. However, Japan could not break her spirit of Independence.
Sam-il-jeol is the day to commemorate patriots who died while fighting for the independence of Korea
