More model informationThe Kota are an ethnic group in Gabon famous for their funerary sculptures. These figures, characteristic of the Kota but also of close groups, accompanied the remains of the deceased and were based on the veneration of ancestors. They represented beings from another world in an abstract way. The shapes are flat and the techniques are complex. The face is within a concave or smooth plane and on the head they usually have a crescent from which they hang pendants on both sides. Under the face there is a rhomboid construction.
