Ptolemaic-Roman Period - 332 BC to 396 AD
Bes is a dwarf God worshipped in Ancient Egypt and is commonly associated with the household, childbirth, dancing and music amongst other things.
Label Details:
Bes was usually shown with a fearsome face and tail feathered head dress. His ferocious appearance made him well suited to ward off evil, and he was particularly associated with the protection of women in childbirth and young children. His worship continued into the Roman Period, where he is sometimes shown in the dress of a soldier.
