More model informationSt Mary’s Church was the first post reformation Catholic Church to be established on South Uist in c. 1732 following the first re-appointment of a parish Priest, Fr. Alexander Forrester. The ruins are unusual as the main part run South to North, however the building was a combined church and house, so it is possible that what remains were mostly house, but the ‘ghost’ of an extension running to the East might represent the church part of the building and it is possible that components of this consecrated section was removed and relocated when the church was re-sited following the fire of 1828 when the Church relocated to Ardkenneth, West of Loch Bee.
