Solid model of Eel River basin, California3D Model
3D rendering of digital model of the Eel River Valley groundwater basin, California. Model shows the predicted subsurface configuration of hydrogeologic units (groupings of rocks with inferred similar water-transmitting properties) based on integration of surface and subsurface geologic data. Two alluvial units and four sedimentary units are modeled above an undivided basement unit. The model volume is built up of rectangular volume elements 125 m in XY dimension and 25 m in Z (vertical) dimension, lending the model a blocky appearance. The southwestern corner of the model volume is cut away to reveal interior structure including faults that intersect and bound hydrogeologic units.
Full digital dataset including hydrogeologic geologic map, contour maps of subsurface units, and borehole data is available on the USGS ScienceBase data repository at: https://doi.org/10.5066/P90L47TI
