More model informationUpper reaches of Shotover River near Skippers bridge. Shows Maori Point and the rusting metal fluming and abandoned dredge. Covers between Stony Creek and downstream from Maori Point nears Low’s Terrace.
Maori Point was a major alluvial gold discovery during the gold rushes of 1860’s. It kicked off many men rushing and mining the Shotover, sluicing surrounding terraces and tributaries for gold, construction of Skippers road and bridge, and several underground gold mines including Bullendale.
