SK953 - A medieval perinatal burial in Cheshire3D ModelNoAI
“During the summer of 2018, archaeological investigations of the graveyard revealed SK 953, a partially articulated infant interment.” Extracted from Blood is thicker than baptismal water: A late medieval perinatal burial in a small household chest Kevin Cootes, Matt Thomas, David Jordan, Janet Axworthy, Rea Carlin https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/oa.2955
During excavation of the burial traces were discovered of a chest in which the infant had been placed; this lead to the decision to switch to ‘block-lifting’ of the entire burial for subsequent analysis. In the remaining short window of time available site director Kevin Cootes photographed the burial from multiple angles, these images being subsequently processed by Archaeology3D to create this photogrammetric model. Sub-optimal lighting and an unfortunately erratic auto-focus on the camera have reduced the details of small elements of the model but the overrall rendering provides an accurate record of the skeleton in situ.
