“Sister Sun and Brother Moon” is a Korean folklore about a brother and sister who come across a wolf. The wolf has already eaten their mother and attempt to eat the siblings. Luckily, the siblings flee and climb on a tree. The wolf couldn’t reach up to them so he asks how they got up there. The sister replies, “Rub sesame oil on your paws and you will be able to climb up the tree.” The wolf does so and slips down. Then the sister giggles and says, “No silly! You can use an ax and hack your way up.” The wolf tries again using an ax and eventually gets up to them. Right when the wolf is about to attack them, the brother prays to the heavens. The brother says, “Let down rope to whom you want to save. And let down a rotten rope who you wish upon death.” The siblings reach out for rope and fortunately it saves them. The siblings reached so high into the sky that the sister turned into the Sun and the brother turned into the Moon. The wolf on the other hand got the rotten rope and fell down to his death.
