More model informationLocated in North Brentwood, MD, the building now known as Sis’ Tavern was originally constructed in 1912 as a grocery store. In the 1950s and 60s it operated as a popular tavern and juke joint that hosted the likes of Duke Ellington and Pearl Bailey. A Barber Shop moved into the North side of the building in the late 20th century, but has since closed. Today, the whole building is reopening as a community center to support the oldest town incorporated by African Americans in Prince George’s County, MD.
