A thatched hut, once used for drying seaweed, is located on the low cliff at the southern end of Freshwater West beach, Pembrokeshire.
This hut is the last survivor of a group of about twenty located in the area in the early 20th century. Seaweed was harvested from the adjacent coast and laid out on the floor to dry before being sent to Swansea for processing.
The use of the huts seems to have ceased by the 1940s and this hut was in a state of disrepair by the 1970s. It was restored and is a Grade II listed building.
The Seaweed drying hut was recorded on the 17th May 2022 and is listed in the National Monuments Record of Wales (NPRN33353) https://coflein.gov.uk/en/site/33353/
