More model informationThis gun was recovered from the edge of the Swash Channel in 1990 and was believed to be associated with the site.
The gun has a length of 980mm to the base ring and a bore of 30mm; this swivel gun, would have liekly had a wrough iron tiller and yoke. Casting small calibre iron guns was difficult, and guns of this type were not common until the early 18th century.
The earliest known example of a cast-iron gun of this type is from the Beaufort Inlet Wreck (Queen Annes Revenge) site dating to 1721, nearly 100 years after the loss of the Swash Channel Wreck, shedding doubt on the provenance of SCW689 and suggesting it is likely to be a later intrusion to the area.
