Saqa Qıŋıraq
The Qıŋıraq was a double-edged sword used by the ancient Turks. Its name is derived from qıŋır “curved” and the nominal suffix -raq (it is a general word for short-swords). It was also the name of a double-edged sword used by the founder of the Zhou dynasty (recorded as 輕呂 Old Chinese /keːŋ-ɡ·raʔ/). It was frequently used by the Huns and recorded in the Book of Han as 徑路 Old Chinese /keːŋ-ɡ·raːɡs/. By the time the Karakhanid scholar, Mahmud al-Kashgari, recorded the term, it had come to mean a “(butcher’s) knife”.
