More model informationPetőfi monument in Bratislava. The monument by Radnai Béla was unveiled in a prominent position in front of the theatre in 1911. Nazi occupiers dismantled the monument and stored its parts in a stable. They were found again in 1955 and the monument was re-erected in a remote park south of the Danube. Slovak nationalists repeatedly damaged the monument, it was dismantled again, restored and erected in lockable Medic Park in 2002.
Sándor Petőfi (1823-1849) came from a Slovakian family. He was a Hungarian poet, folk hero and freedom fighter of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848.
