More model informationA 3D model of the Samai Mai shrine after conservation. The shrine is an important focal point for the local community but was in a dangerous state of disrepair. As part of the UNESCO Japanses Funds-in-Trust funded project “Strengthening the Conservation and Management of Lumbini, the Birthplace of Lord Buddha Phases II and III: Tilaurakot/Kapilavastu”, and in conjunction with the Lumbini Development Trust, Deaprtment of Archaeology and Durham University, the srine underwent conservation to secure its long-term viability. This model captures the state fo the building after the brickwork was repaired and repointed. Plans are in place to install a thatched roof.
