Sepulchral inscription from Emerita Augusta (Merida, Spain). Currently deposited in the National Museum of Roman Art (Merida).
It is a lintel (epystilum) from an ancient mausoleum made of marble. It was found in 1994 in an archaeological intervention within the enclosure of the House of the Amphitheater, in situ in a level of destruction dated to the 5th century AD.
The text is as follows: Ana b(onis) b(ene) // Recommemoratio / C(ai) Iul(ii) Successiani / augustalis emeritensis / exsuperanti // Bar/raeca.
Translation: Recommemoration of Gaius Julius Successianus, augustalis emeritensis, (nicknamed) Exuperantius. The (river) Ana. May it go well to the good ones. The (river) Barrega.
