Another of the five prehistoric carvings found on a boggy area of private land E of Rivock Edge, Rombalds Moor, West Yorkshire. Boughey & Vickerman ref the stone IAG 58 in their 2003 publication ‘Prehistoric Rock Art of the West Riding’, and describe:
‘Large, rough grit rock. Four cups.’
Historic England listing also includes a reference to just 4 cups on the stone: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1011659
In 2012, the CSI: Rombalds Moor project recorded the stone ‘Rivock 14’ on ERA describing a total of 10 cups. This model shows ¾ of the surface and additional depressions can be seen. However, the pitted nature of the geology makes it difficult to be certain whether all the features are carved.
This decimated model was created from 14 stereo pairs captured by Peter Butler (CSI Team) in June 2013. The imagery forms part of the HLF funded CSI: Rombalds Moor / Watershed Landscape Project archive.
