This gun hammer is a replica of the type that would have been found on the muskets carried by the soldiers travelling on the Earl Of Abergavenny. ‘Grice 1762’ refers to the manufacturer and year. Note also the royal crown and initials GR - George Rex (George III). The piece of flint is from the wreck of the Abergavenny and is a wedge type. This replica gun hammer usefully shows how the flint in the gun mechanism would have been struck.
