Recreation Hall, Sunnyside Royal Hospital3D Model
Laser scan model of the Recreation Hall in the Main Hospital Building of the former Sunnyside Royal Hospital at Hillside, near Montrose, Angus. Zoom through the walls to see inside! The model was created in 2018 as part of a package of building recording at the site during the redevelopment of the former hospital complex. The “Main Building” was built in 1857 by W. L. Moffat as the principal building of the Sunnyside Hospital complex. The building was constructed to house all classes of patients and was intended to house 280 patients. The Recreation Hall was added in 1879 to a design by Robert Rowand Anderson. It replaced part of the central wing of the E-plan Main Building which was demolished to make way for the new structure. It housed a large dining hall on the ground floor and a large T-plan Recreation Hall on the 1st floor. Lit from windows on either side to the East and West, the ceiling rose to the full height of the roof. This new block was opened in 1882. Angus HER Record NO76SW0137
