More model informationSaccharomyces cerevisiae repressor-activator protein 1 (RAP1), it is the major DNA-binding protein of yeast telomeres. Telomeres are specialised segments of DNA comprised of short tandem repeats that cap eukaryotic linear Chromosomes. As such, they perform key roles in chromosome maintenance, stability and transcription. They are highly dynamic as their length changes; this is thought to be related to aging and cancers. RAP1 has been shown to act as both a repressor and activator of transcription RAP1 is a large 827 amino acid residue protein, however, only a small portion of this forms the DNA-binding Domain (RAP1-DBD) which is what we will focus on.
