Qatar Museums - Zubarah Bay 1 - Find 00063D ModelNoAI
This beautiful, small ceramic find was recovered by the Maritime Archaeology Trust and Qatar Museums team during excavation of a potential wreck site located in Zubarah Bay, at the UNSCO World Heritage site of Al Zubarah, Qatar, in January 2018.
This appears to be a vernacular three-handled tableware vessel standing just under 11 cm high. It was located upside down adjacent to the neck of the previous find F0003 at a maximum depth of 30 cm below the seabed. This ceramic was discovered by Trust divers following a side scan sonar survey to identify anomalies within the bay.
It is similar to other finds from the area, with a broken example currently on display at Al Zubarah fort. Read more about Al Zubarah here.
A 3D site plan showing the locations and positions of the as-found ceramics, including this find, will be published very soon.
Five other large ceramics were recovered which together are indictaive of a potetial wreck site.
Scales are 10 cm.
