The Public Sidewalk Garden is an idea where gardens and fresh foods are available on the streets, free for all to take, utilizing hydroponics technologies (growing plants witout soil, using nutrients in liquid solutions) and supported by solar panels and rain collection barrels and a water filtration/nutrient-adding system. The Public Sidewalk Gardens are built vertically to best utilize public space, and exist throughout cities in the road verge (grassy area between sidewalks and streets). The top of the garden area (box) contains growing lights that are powered by the solar panels on top of the public garden, and contains liquid/gas with nutrients fed in by the rain collection barrel. The rain collection barrel also filters rain water and cleans it for people to drink, connecting to an underground water storage system. This system also collects nutrients from the ground to allow the plants to grow bigger and have higher nutrional value.
