The 3D model presented here is the head of a socketed-axe discovered during excavations near the city of Maastricht, Netherlands. Socketed-axe is an overarching term for prehistoric axes which were widely used in the north-west of the European continent during the Bronze Age (2000–800 BC). Despite its impressive age, the object is still in a good condition but shows signs of abrasion on the blade and a typical turquoise/green coloring of the entire body due to corrosion.
Especially in the regions of today’s Great Britain, France, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands many different types of socketed-axes can be found. Each axe has different external characteristics depending on the region it comes from, but the basic materials, bronze or iron, always remain the same
