The gyroid cube was the most difficult for me. I was so determined to optimize the pattern down to a size that would work as an infill on any 3d printed part that I followed tutorials for completely different CAD programs and figured out how to do the same thing in SolidWorks. When it came time to print, I ended up spending 10 hours sitting in front of our Ultimaker2+ doing maintenance and calibrations and what not because nobody really knew how to use it. Eventually, though, I had a 6cm cube printed out and I was ready to test its strength! I put it in a vise, but couldn’t break it with all my strength so I showed my teacher, who tried to break it and bent the vise handle before it finally split cleanly along a seam between the layers. I succeeded despite my solution requiring a skill set i didn’t have yet, making me extremely confident in my approach to engineering problems.
