PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is a very attractive plastic for humans used sufficing various daily needs; clothing, packaging, gas barrier in bottles etc. PETase (PET hydrolase) uses PET hydrolysis to break PET down via the PETase consuming Ideonella Sakaiensis. This model is the apo form of PETase.
The model shows the key interactions noted: Disulfide bridge 1, HEMT ligand, W156, Catalytic Triad, and the Oxyanion hole. Each are important for their stated reasons.
Colour Key: Base Colours = Cartoon colour of non annotated structures = wheat. W156 = red. HEMT = Green. DS1 = Orange. Oxyanion hole = turqoise. Catalytic Triad = magenta. Polar contacts = dash lines = same colour as base residue. Other colours within the base colours of residues / amino acids; Green = Carbon. Blue = Nitrogen. Red = Oxygen. Yellow = Sulfur.
