More model informationThis decorated iron padlock once secured the inner iron door to the Crown Room of Edinburgh Castle. Following the Act of Union in 1707, the Honours of Scotland ceased to have any ceremonial role and were locked away in a large wooden chest behind this door for over 100 years.
In 1818, Sir Walter Scott successfully petitioned the Prince Regent to re-enter the Crown Room. The padlock was found “left within the crown-room upon the top of the chest”.
