More model informationThis is a model of the floodgate to the mill race for the historic Owens Creek sawmill in Catoctin Mountain Park, Maryland, U.S. It is located near the Owens Creek campground in the park. The sawmill operated from the early to mid 1800s or possibly earlier, to around the 1890s. This gate was used to control the flow of water from the millpond into the race. A replica of the sawmill, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, stands on the site of the original, and is on display for visitors to see. The original mill race and pond are still intact, although unfortunately they have not undergone any preservation, and there is no trail access to these remaining features. They are located Southwest of the sawmill in the woods.
