Ormaig is a major rock art site near Kilmartin Glen, on the west coast of Scotland. This model shows the relationship between Exposures 2, 3 and 7.
In 2007, I worked at Ormaig as an excavator and photographer during fieldwork by Southampton University and Kilmartin Museum. A larger area of bedrock around these exposures was revealed. Very few artefacts were recovered, in comparison to rock art sites I have worked at elsewhere, and a few new motifs were recorded. It intrigues me that there are large areas of suitable rock which appear not to have been carved. Perhaps they were significant in other ways?
For these Ormaig surveys I have adopted the numbering scheme used during the excavation. N indicates True North.
