More model informationThe greater bulldog bat is one of only three New World bats known to be a piscivore - that is, to primarily eat fish. It fishes by raking its feet through the surface of pool, rivers and lakes. Because sonar is unable to penetrate the surface of water, fishing attempts are random with preferences for past “lucky” fishing spots. It is currently hypthesized that this unique random feeding behavior favored the selection of bigger feet - with high fishing success rates - which lead to the exagerated nature of this bat’s feet.
