This is the fragment of a base of a ceramic vessel, found in Area C at Khirbat al-Jariya in the Faynan region of southern Jordan. This type of vessel is known as Negebite Ware. Negebite Ware (also known as Handmade Arabah Ware) is a common type of pottery from Iron Age sites in the Negev Desert (this is how it gets its name). This type of pottery is handmade (rather than wheelmade), and is identifiable based on the coarse texture of its fabric. Negebite Ware vessels also often have flat bases, as this vessel does, and open mouths.
